Strategic Plan

Saint John's Preparatory School is Minnesota 's oldest secondary school. Founded and sustained by the monks of Saint John's Abbey, the campus is nestled among 2,700 acres of pristine lakes and woods. The college preparatory school has operated continuously since 1857, expanding to offer a co-educational program in 1973, and a middle school in 1997. Students from across the country and around the world, representing a variety of faiths, cultures and races, are educated by a dedicated faculty and staff of lay and religious men and women. Catholic in the Benedictine tradition, Saint John's Preparatory School shares its campus and has an important relationship with all of the divisions of the Order of Saint Benedict, The College of Saint Benedict, and Saint Benedict's Monastery. Our curriculum is classic liberal arts, our values are Benedictine, our anchor is the Catholic faith.

Saint John's Preparatory School proposes a strategy for the future expressed through a vision, six strategic imperatives, and seventeen measurable goals.

Vision

An old dictum says, "The future builds on the past."

Saint John's Preparatory School has been educating students for 151 years, built on the teachings and life of Jesus Christ and the 1500 year-old Benedictine tradition. SJP is liberal arts in character, has been co-educational since 1973, and shares its campus with the other divisions of the Order of Saint Benedict and the College of Saint Benedict. This solid base from the past has produced the Prep School of today and continues to be the underpinning for our future dreams.

We will be recognized nationally for our practice of the Benedictine Values. We will be known for fully preparing each student for entry into college. We will be respected in the academic community for our ability to internationalize all of our students. Our summer programming will be recognized as the best in Minnesota. Our graduates will demonstrate creative, ethical leadership in church and society throughout the world.

Saint John's Preparatory School will be a recognized leader in preparing young men and women for success in college, responsible citizenship in the world, and the development of attitudes consistent with Benedictine values.
