Student Spotlight

Erin Rocky ‘10

Erin truly lives her faith. When offered a myriad of interesting choices for Interim Week, including touring England and video production, Erin designed her own area of study- a service mission trip.

"While I was in Jamaica I worked at a boys' orphanage, Sunbeam Boys Home, for a week. I got the amazing opportunity to work with the boys in school, with their homework, as well as arts and games, and I led music for worship every night. Every team that goes down, goes with a mission theme, ours was, "Be the Message," which was that God loves everyone and works in those who believe. So my initial thought on going down there was that we were going to be spreading the word of God and trying to strengthen these boys faith during their times of trouble. After our first day there, Sunday, I quickly learned that these people have the strongest faith of anyone I could imagine. I ended up learning more about how much I needed God, and how important God was in my life than I could have ever expected. So, aside from all the great memories of laughs and tears of goodbye, the biggest thing I took from the experience was how much faith I received from these boys who ended up helping me in my mission to help them."

As well as being a student who exemplifies Saint John's Prep, Erin is an accomplished singer and guitarist and she looks forward to attending the McNally Smith College of Music in Saint Paul, Minn.
