Saint John's Prep is committed to enrolling a diverse, motivated and capable community of learners. Our financial-aid program, supported by our endowment and by scholarship resources, has the goal of making a Saint John's Prep education available to as many students as possible.
We understand that an education at Saint John's Prep is a significant investment and that each family enters into the admission process under different financial circumstances. Now more than ever, we encourage you to take that first step to learn what options are available for your family. Some important facts to consider: - We are a diverse community and recognize each family has different financial assistance needs.
- In 2010-11, approximately 46% of all Saint John's Prep students received financial aid.
- In 2010-11, over $840,000 of financial aid was awarded.
- Two types of financial aid are available: need-based and merit-based (see below)
- Each need-based financial aid award is different - some families qualify for $500, $1,000, $5,000, $7,500 or more.

Who can apply?
Students, who are U.S citizens, entering grades 9-12 are eligible to apply for the need-based and merit-based scholarships, as described below. These scholarships are awarded by Saint John's Prep.
How to Apply for Need-Based Financial Aid/Scholarships
- Due to a limited financial aid budget, families are encouraged to submit the financial aid application as early as possible. Please note: Financial aid is available only to U.S. citizens.
- Complete the Saint John's Prep Financial Aid application (see link below). Submit this with a signed copy of your Federal Tax return, along with a copy of your W2 forms to the Financial Aid Office. The address is listed on the Financial Aid application.
- The Financial Aid Committee will then calculate the amount of need-based financial aid. An award letter will be sent directly to the family.
- Please note: Every financial need award includes an optional work study award. The work study award is an opportunity for students to contribute to their tuition by working at the school. Day students may work at the school during the summer months, school vacations and during the school day. Resident students usually work after school or on Saturdays. Students typically do not work more than five hours per week during the school year.

How to Apply for Merit-Based Scholarships
There are four merit-based scholarships available: The Headmaster Scholarship, The Froehle Science Scholarship and the Br. Paul Vincent-Niebauer Theatre Scholarship and the Saint John's Boys' Choir Scholarship. (See descriptions of each below.) - Print and complete the scholarship application. For your reference when writing the essay, the Benedictine Values can be found by clicking here.
- Submit to the address listed on the application. Applications for the merit-based scholarships must be received by May 1st for consideration.
- Notification letters will be mailed to all applicants in June.

1. Headmaster Scholarship
Saint John's Prep provides a limited number of $1,000 Headmaster's Scholarships to outstanding students. Awards are based on academic achievement, participation in extra-curricular activities and overall contribution to the community. The Headmaster Scholarship is renewable up through graduation. Priority consideration will be given to students entering 9th grde. To apply for this award, students must submit a scholarship application by May 1st.
2. Froehle Science Scholarship
One $600 scholarship is awarded each year to an incoming ninth grade student who has a demonstrated interest in science as well as strong academic achievements and leadership. This award was established by alumni/ae of the school in honor of Prep science teacher and coach, Peter Froehle. To apply for this award, students must submit a scholarship application by May 1st.
3. Br. Paul Vincent Niebauer Theatre Scholarship
The Theatre Scholarship was established in honor of Br. Paul-Vincent Niebauer, who greatly contributed to the Saint John's Prep community by teaching and directing theatre for thirteen years. Upper School students who have a strong demonstrated interest in theatre are encouraged to apply for this one-time scholarship of $1,000. Priority consideration will be given to students entering 9th grade. To apply for this award, students must submit a scholarship application by May 1st.
4. Saint John's Boys Choir Scholarship
Saint John's Prep is a long-time supporter of the Saint John's Boys' Choir. We are pleased to offer this exclusive scholarship to current members of the Boys' Choir. This $750 scholarship automatically renews each year, during grades 6-8, provided the recipient continues to demonstrate academic success, good character and leadership qualities. To apply for this award, students must submit a scholarship application by May 1st.

Confidentiality
Saint John's Prep maintains confidential financial aid records for all applicants. These records are reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee and occasionally by the head of school or business manager. All financial aid awards are confidential agreements between the recipient family and the school.
The Financial Aid Committee considers financial aid awards strictly confidential. Saint John's Prep does not share information with any other party. Because of this, families many not discuss financial aid with anyone other than a member of the Financial Aid Committee. Awards can be withdrawn for breach of this expectation.
