"The wonderful thing from my point of view is how students learn from active involvement and engagement with their surroundings--from taking short hikes around the arboretum to learn about biomes; harvesting clay to make pottery; to writing poetry in their chosen favorite spots in the woods.  Before experiencing SJP, if I saw this kind of school depicted in a movie, I might not have believed it."

6th Grade program

Please note:  Our 6th grade class for the 2011-12 year is now full and a waiting list has started.  If you are interested in having your child(ren) attend our 6th grade program in the 2012-13 year, we encourage you to attend the Information and Early Application Night on Thursday, October 27th at 7pm.

Saint John's Prep continually looks to the future by identifying trends and new opportunities.  One opportunity, was adding the 6th grade program in the 2009-2010 school year.
background information

Similar to when Saint John's Prep began our current middle school program (grades 7-8) in the fall of 1997, the addition of the 6th grade program was due in part by the high interest of area families.  Families appreciate our small class sizes and the interdisciplinary method of teaching, as found in our current middle school program.  In addition, students have the opportunity to access our exploratory world language program (12 weeks each of German, Spanish, Chinese), strong music program and opportunity for placement in advanced math levels.

In addition, many area schools are, or are considering, transitioning from a junior high model to a true middle school model that includes 6th grade.  We believe we are in a position to meet the current needs in the community and move forward as an innovative and premier education provider.

Overview

The sixth grade pilot program is designed for area students who will engage in an interdisciplinary and experiential learning environment.  Students will be actively engaged in the core academics of language arts, math, science and social studies, involving problem-solving and critical thinking.  This program is designed to be an encapsulated program that has access to our exploratory world language program, upper level math classes, and an exceptional music program.  Students will experience innovative learning in a diverse curriculum. All students will be held to high academic standards by offering a range of programs.  Click here to visit the classroom website to see photos, students blogs, descriptions of what's happening in 6th grade and more!
