Boarding Schools

Whether you live in the Central Minnesota area, or far across the globe, choosing to attend and live on the campus of a quality boarding school such as Saint John’s Preparatory School is a phenomenal opportunity. Our school offers boarding options that provide students with all the comforts of home, as well as enhanced opportunities and options designed to mesh seamlessly with a higher level of education. We have two residences on our campus; Emmaus Hall offers housing for girls, and Saint Michael Hall houses the boys. Our dormitories are staffed with full-time qualified adults who are university trained to assist young individuals to reach their full potential. Many excellent benefits come from choosing a boarding school, and we would like to share some of them to help you determine if boarding schools are a good fit for your child and family.

Benefits of Boarding Schools

Students living at a boarding school are provided with an excellent balance between nurturing and professional care and the responsibilities that help to teach a well-ordered life. Along with the exceptional education offered in the classroom, boarding provides additional opportunities for students to learn that coincide perfectly with the methods used by their faculty. Boarding helps children to learn independence, supports their development, and assists them in becoming mature and responsible members of their community. Boarding also contributes to forging strong bonds between students based on mutual respect and has numerous proven benefits regarding their social and emotional strength and well-being. Part of our mission at Saint John’s Preparatory School is to develop in children the skills and knowledge they need to excel in a college environment. Through boarding and our Residential Student Program, the students face some of the same challenges that will confront them when they reach college, and yet provide the attention and support of adults and classmates when they need it. All of this is available in an environment that is extremely safe and nurturing, and that provides them with all their needs and the comforts that exist in their own home.

For College and Beyond

Our residential life provides so much more than a warm bed, flat-screen televisions, computers and internet, indoor sports, and comfortable community rooms. It also offers more than a chance for students in grades 9-12 to become more mature and responsible adults to prepare them for college. Living in a boarding school provides benefits last far longer than their formal educational pursuits. Lessons learned, friendships made, and opportunities provided can last a lifetime, extending into their careers and families. Studies, including those by the Association of Boarding Schools, have clearly shown that boarding school students achieve greater success and obtain more advanced degrees, have better career options, and forge bonds with classmates that remain active throughout adulthood.
