You are encouraged to discuss your course selections with your parents
and work out a tentative program of studies for next year and the rest
of your years at Saint John’s Preparatory School. Some of the classes
listed may not be taught due to lack of sufficient enrollment.
Ordinarily 10 students must pre-register for a course in order for it to
be offered. Therefore, it is important that you list alternatives for
any electives that you select. Curriculum Outline
Registration Outline
- Review the graduation requirements and plan your program through
graduation. You should become familiar with the entrance requirements of
the colleges you are planning to apply to. A typical course of studies
is enclosed.
- Go over the specific requirements of your grade level.
NOTE: Students MUST sign up for the equivalent of AT LEAST 5 classes
every day or 3.5 classes every day for those who are taking a college
course.
- Fine Arts:
- Taking Art, Band, Chorus or String Ensemble, as indicated will
fulfill the Fine Arts requirement. Participation in the Melk Program
also fulfills the Fine Arts requirement.
- Music classes meet for the entire year. You will not be allowed to
drop music classes at the end of the first semester.
- Students wishing to take courses at SJU/CSB should see the Academic
Dean to make the appropriate arrangements. Prep students must have a
2.80 cumulative GPA or higher as a prerequisite to taking a college
course. Note that SJU/CSB courses are open to SJP students on a space
available and schedule-permitting basis. SJU/CSB students have priority
over SJP students and are scheduled by SJU/CSB first. SJU Course Schedules
will be available in the Library or Main Office.
- Three years of math and foreign language in the upper school are
required regardless of where a student begins the sequence. Accelerated
languages are considered one (1) year of language. If you have any
questions, see the Academic Dean.
- Some classes have special requirements for enrollment. Example:
Drawing is a prerequisite for Painting.
- Other Comments:
- Students may not start a new foreign language at SJP without the
Academic Dean’s permission.
- Students are strongly encouraged to take 4 years of
mathematics.
