Welcome to the Saint John's Preparatory Guidance and Counseling Office. For your convenience we have outlined the services provided by our department. We encourage you to check and see if there is an area in which we may be of service to your student. This outline is a way for your student to decide how they may become involved in some of our programs or to access links to internet resources that might be helpful to them. Please contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.
Students are assigned an advising group when they first enter SJP and they will remain in the same group through their education at Prep. Advising groups will meet once a week and advisors will use this group time to review progress reports, to note any difficulties a particular student may be having, and to answer questions regarding school functions, handbook rules, etc. This time will also be used to discuss issues of importance to group members and to cover college preparation materials provided by the Guidance Office. Advisors are also responsible for meeting with advisees individually and contacting parents when necessary.
Individual meetings are scheduled with students based on students request, school/teacher request, or parent request. The following services are offered:
New students will attend an orientation to get familiar with the school before classes begin. We offer individual meetings to support adjustment into our community. Cultural exchange activities are organized to form a unified student community. We also have a host family program which you can ask us about and also make sure to share any VISA and immigration concerns with us.
Individuals will meet with a counselor to guide them in the college admission process. Counselors will assist students in searching for colleges, preparing applications, and selecting institutions that is right for them. Below is a basic guideline of the steps that will be taken throughout the students high school career. These steps will prepare students for the college application process.
